Christmas Tree Cutting
Venture beyond the Christma tree lot this year for a family fun experince - cutting down your own tree !
Each year the U. S. Forest Service sells permits for individuals to cut down their own christmas trees in the National Forests. In 2017, the permit cost forf hte Okanogan Wenatchee National Fores are $5. Permits can be purchased at the Naches Ranger Station.
With the permit, you can cut down ore dig up one tree per permit that is 15 (or less) feet tall, or dig up asmall tree to replant in your yard.
The permit must be validated and displayed on your dashboard when you park at the trailhead, then attached to the tree trunk between the limbs and be visible during transport to your home. Permit holders are not allowed to harvest in these areas:
- Designated wilderness areas
- Fire closure areas
- Campgrounds
- Developed Recreation Area
- Tree Plantations
- Within 200 feet of specific roads, or within 150 feet of any lake, pond, stream or wetland area
- On private land, or where specifically posted.
